The best Daytona homage
Last updated October 2026.
Short answer (checked 2026-10-22, per each maker’s own page and the Amazon US buy box): Buyable now: the Pagani Design PD-1664 (in stock on Amazon US, sold by NOVANILY Official Store, shipped by Amazon) and the Sugess S465 (in stock on Amazon US, sold by Sugess Official). Not buyable now: the San Martin SN0116-G-JS (sold out in all 10 configurations on San Martin’s own store). Automatic: none of the three ranked homages. The PD-1664 and the SN0116-G-JS are meca-quartz (Seiko VK63 and Seiko VK64), and the S465 is a hand-wound Seagull ST19. The Sugess S418-2 is an automatic chronograph (SL4801 automatic winding, 39mm, 50m), sold on Sugess’s own store and on Amazon US by Sugess Official, but it is not scored on our rubric, so it is not ranked or linked here. Size and counters, as each maker states them: PD-1664 40mm, counters not stated by Pagani (its product photos show three subdials), date window between 4 and 5 o’clock; SN0116-G-JS 39.5mm, a 24-hour counter at 3 o’clock and a 60-minute counter at 9 o’clock; S465 38mm, “12 Hours and seconds Indicator, 30 Minutes Chronograph”. The Rolex 126500LN is 40mm, with small seconds at 6 o’clock, a 30-minute counter at 3 and a 12-hour counter at 9 (rolex.com). The PD-1664 Amazon link opens the “PD-1664 Gray Meteorite” variant: a light grey meteorite-pattern dial with black subdials, on a silicone strap.
Every score below is this site’s published fidelity rubric, 0–100 on design language alone. A chronograph is the one complication that genuinely costs money to build, so the affordable Daytona field is defined by a compromise the dive-watch field never has to make: almost none of these are automatic. Understand what meca-quartz is and the whole category makes sense — and mostly in your favour. Here are the three worth knowing, ranked on our fidelity rubric. Every fidelity score here follows the published rubric, and each model number and price is read from the brand’s own store, with the date recorded against the row.

Order and fidelity scores are those of the ranking below. Specifications are read from each maker’s own page on 2026-10-22: paganidesign.com, sanmartinwatches.com, sugesswatch.com and rolex.com. “Not stated” means the maker does not say.
Meca-quartz, and why it is not a cop-out
An automatic chronograph movement is expensive — it is the single most complex thing in a mainstream mechanical watch, and none of the three homages ranked here has one. Automatic chronograph homages do exist: Sugess sells the S418-2 on an SL4801 automatic chronograph movement, on its own store and on Amazon (both checked 2026-10-22), but it is not scored on our rubric, so it is not ranked here. Meca-quartz splits the difference: a quartz movement keeps time, while a genuine mechanical module drives the chronograph. In practice that means the sweep is smooth rather than ticking, the pushers have real mechanical resistance, and the reset hand snaps back to zero the way an expensive chronograph does. What you lose is the automatic winding and the story. Two of the three watches below are meca-quartz; the third is a hand-wound mechanical, and it costs what that implies.
1. Pagani Design PD-1664 — the value benchmark, and the right first buy Amazon ↗
About $126 at Pagani’s own store (checked 2026-10-08), fidelity 82. The black tachymeter bezel that makes the Daytona what it is, driven by a Seiko VK63 meca-quartz — the seconds hand sweeps, the pushers feel mechanical, and it costs little for a chronograph. 40mm and 100m water resistance, matching the original's case size exactly. The Amazon link opens the “PD-1664 Gray Meteorite” variant: a light grey meteorite-pattern dial with black subdials, on a silicone strap (checked 2026-10-22). Neither that listing nor Pagani’s own store names any PD-1664 variant panda or white. This is where almost everyone should start, and Pagani Design built its reputation on precisely this watch.
2. San Martin SN0116-G-JS — the cleaner build San Martin ↗
About $248, fidelity 83. Note the exact reference, SN0116-G-JS: every Amazon listing sold as “SN0116” is a different NH35/NH34 dive watch, so the link above goes to San Martin’s own page, and all ten configurations were sold out there at our 2026-09-27, 2026-10-03 and 2026-10-22 checks. The same meca-quartz idea executed with mid-tier care: a Seiko VK64 module, a ceramic chronograph bezel, cleaner dial printing and a noticeably better bracelet than the budget tier. It runs 39.5mm against the original's 40mm. It scores a point higher on fidelity and feels several tiers better in the hand — but be clear about what the extra $122 buys, because it is not a mechanical movement. It is finishing, printing and bracelet. If those are what bother you about the Pagani, this fixes them; if they are not, save the money. Usually cheaper direct from San Martin.
3. Sugess S465 Chrono Heritage — the mechanical purist's pick Amazon ↗
About $220, fidelity 76. The one genuinely mechanical option: a hand-wound Seagull ST19 column-wheel chronograph, as Sugess itself describes the movement (the Amazon listing title says ST1903), a Chinese chronograph calibre with real history behind it. You wind it every day, the chronograph is driven by gears rather than a module, and the watch has a character neither meca-quartz option can imitate. The compromises are honest ones — the lowest fidelity of the three, and only 50m water resistance, so treat it as a dress chronograph. It is sold on Amazon by Sugess Official (in stock, usually ships within 2 to 3 days, checked 2026-10-22) as well as on Sugess’s own store; more on the brand in our Sugess guide.
